Living only a moments’ walk away we are no strangers to this little gem. So, I have no qualms in saying, “If you haven’t been – you need to go!”
If you have been looking for a somewhat trendy spot to watch the world go by while enjoying some seriously tasty food, then look no further, we’ve got the jackpot for you!
The Lion’s Den, owned and run by Louise, is a thoroughly cherished hideaway and is fast becoming a true local institution. This place is ideally located next to Marks and Spencer’s on Wey Hill, only moments from the historic market town of Haslemere and seconds from the local park.
At The Lion’s Den, the focal point is very much about the quality of the produce and the casual environment that you get to enjoy whilst tucking into fabulous food. This restaurant cherishes its owners’ unique approach and is a true realisation of a dream to create a place that fits in with the trendy informal café culture but doesn’t lack on its customers service and quality of food. Their philosophy is of course, simple food prepared with love and passion, but most of all creating a home from home where people can enjoy a fuss free meal with their nearest and dearest. However, what really sets the tone here is its interiors. The place has been lovingly restored and exudes a cosy rustic appeal that is conducive to relaxation and conversation.
The breakfast menu offers a long list of options such as Crushed avocado and poached egg on toasted sourdough with crumbled feta and pine nuts (£7.50), Skillet baked eggs with their own spicy chickpea, tomato and spinach (£8) or Sussex Charmer grilled cheese on toast (£5). As well as the classics, The Lion’s Den with Bells herbed sausage, Wiltshire bacon, fried egg, sautéed mushroom, tomato, beans and toast (£9), Vegan breakfast with hummus on toasted sourdough with wilted spinach, sautéed mushrooms, tomatoes, avocado and beans (£8.50). The Lions Cub breakfast is available for little ones (£5).
However, if you are looking to tuck into a passionately hearty lunch or afternoon snack then you are going to want to try ‘The Dirty Dog,’ a whopping 150g German made bratwurst style sausage of pork and bacon for added flavour in a custom baked dog roll. Served Danish style with mild mustard, house ketchup, fried crispy onions, house remoulade and pickled cucumbers (£7.50).
Open on a walk-in basis on Monday – Saturday between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm and on Sunday between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm.

"Such a fantastic scheme. As a business we have an offer on with the Mustcard which has given us a platform to reach more local customers. But more than that I have been personally using my card to shop locally in Haslemere and Midhurst. Some of the discounts are brilliant. The best part for me is the fabulous write ups on local shops and pubs that I otherwise would not have known about! We have visited so many new places because of the Mustcard, it has opened up our local area. I love scrolling through the business listings and exploring all the new places! Supporting the local independents, what could be better than that! Thank you Mustcard."May and Grace Bridal, Haslemere

In today’s fast changing world the things we value are shifting equally as fast. The move away from chain style shops and departments stores to online ordering for example. Within this the Independent shops have become the marker, not only for defining our towns, by giving them identity and individuality, but by increasing the sense of community. Supporting Independent small and family businesses keeps our towns alive. The Mustcard is a superb, affordable way for us to say ‘YES, we are in. YES we value and support our town’s individuality, it’s personality and it’s people’. The additional twist is that, in so doing, these amazing shops and their owners reward Mustcard Members with special discounts!! It’s a true win win!My Midhurst Life
